Amaryllis are available from October right through to March, so you can keep the festive feeling alive for longer with these beautiful, velveteen blooms.
They are so versatile, that they fit the bill for any occasion – try hanging them upside down with water poured inside the hollow stem for November fireworks, or look out for orange-coloured amaryllis to pop inside a pumpkin for Halloween.
They’re a favourite flower for Christmas arrangements, and the pictures opposite should give you lots of ideas that you can try in the home for festive fun.
If you’re stumped on how to look after these gorgeous flowers, check out how we used them in a glamorous living-room make over here.
Amaryllis originates from exotic parts of South America and the Caribbean; it also has a flamboyant tropical look. Find out more facts about Amaryllis.

Step by Step Instructions For a cheerful spring-time display! Step 1: Take three bright cerise amaryllis, 15 pink spider gerbera, and some pink pipe cleaners with jewels wrapped around the ends.
Step 2: Remove the brown leaves (sepals) from the tops of the amaryllis stem, just below the part where flowers start. Tie the stems together with string at the necks of the flowers.
Step 3: Turn the amaryllis to face you, making sure you can't see any of the string from this angle.
Step 4: Poke the pipe-cleaners, with the jewels attached to the ends, into the massed amaryllis.
Step 5: Leaving a four to five inch gap from the point where you've tied the amaryllis, arrange the spider gerbera in a group at the same height, all around the 'trunk' of the amaryllis. Secure the gerbera with string, and cut the stems of all the flowers to the same length at the bottoms. Place in a vase of water and enjoy! TIP: Amaryllis have hollow stems, which suck up and store water. Put just a few inches of water in the vase, so that neither the amaryllis or gerbera are too swamped by too much water. |

Amaryllis flowers are happy to hang upside down – fill the stems with water and stuff the end of the stem with cotton wool to secure and they’ll stay fresh, just like they would in a vase of water. you can even use the hollow stems of amaryllis as vases for thin stemmed flowers - we've used fritillaria, carefully placed into the top of the upturned stem. |

Create an entrance with a stunning amaryllis decoration - add a smart tassel and curly 'ting ting' twigs, and replace the spider gerbera for anthuriums, arranged around the amaryllis like the petals of a flower. |
