From royal weddings to celebrity marriages; we just love seeing pictures of the whole day, especially the bride, her dress and her bouquet. Flowers play an important role in the theme of a wedding and every bouquet is carefully considered and arranged to have just the right impact on that special day.
In the Victorian language of flowers, lily-of-the-valley translates as ‘you have made my life complete’ and so it has become a popular choice for celebrity weddings around the world. It is only available in April and May, but modern alternatives for year-round sweetly scented blooms are freesia, tuberose and stephanotis. A summer wedding can have gorgeous sweet peas to add a splash of scent, as LeAnn Rimes chose for her pretty wedding posy, mixed in with roses, hydrangea and freesia.
Here we have selected a short list of memorable celebrity weddings with details of the flowers they chose for their big day:
Audrey chose a simple headdress of large white roses when she married her first husband, Sean Ferrer, and for her second wedding to Andrea Dotti, she chose a scented hand-tied posy of freesia and lily-of-the-valley.
Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor
Marilyn held a simple posy of three white orchids when she wed Joe Di Maggio, and whilst Elizabeth Taylor chose the same flowers, she opted for a larger bouquet when she wed her first husband Nicky Hilton.
On her wedding day, this singer and actress chose gardenias and lily-of-the-valley, which would have smelled as beautiful as it looked.
For her wedding to Prince William, Kate Middleton chose a bouquet of myrtle, lily-of-the-valley, hyacinth and Sweet William, arranged in a small yet stylish design.
When Zara Phillips wed Mike Tindall, she opted for a traditional bouquet of white calla lilies, but added a personal touch of thistles in honour of the location; Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh.
