Celebrity Flowers
Want to feel like Kate Moss or Fearne Cotton? It's easy to feel like a celebrity, get yourself some flowers! Follow these simple instructions from the Flowers & Plants Association for fast ways to feel good.
Decide which flower will make you feel like a star.
Orchids are the most glamorous flowers to have in celebrity circles for 2008 – Kate Moss was famously given ten by current beau, Jamie Hince, for her 34th birthday, after she fell in love with them while holidaying in Thailand.
Do one better.
There's lots of different orchids to choose from – Kate loves dendrobium orchids which come in purple, green or white; but you can also get racy vanda orchids in rich purple, red and orange; cymbidium orchids in every colour from earthy tones to bright pinks; or phalaenopsis orchids, which are delicate and simple. All are very popular – but to feel like a true celebrity, hunt out the more rarely seen types, like oncidium, with lots of small butterfly-like flowers, cattleya, to make you feel like a Hollywood prom queen, or paphiopedilum, also known as slipper orchid, to make you feel like Cinderella.
Plant or flower?
Most of these orchids can be bought as a plant to keep you reminded of how gorgeous you are a little longer, so check out these plant facts to keep it looking as glamorous as you. For extra chic and glamour, choose orchids as a cut flower for the height of luxury!
Drop hints.
Princesses don't buy their own presents. Save this webpage to your boyfriend's favourites list, drop in conversations how much you love orchids, leave the number of your local florist hanging around… if all else fails, why not treat yourself – after all, celebrities go shopping for exactly what they want all the time – and place the flowers next to your bed, so it's only you who gets to enjoy them!
What Celebs say about flowers
NICK KNOWLES
“I love flowers — I’m like Elton John!”
COLIN & JUSTIN
“Always have fresh flowers on display. To keep costs down, use single blooms and lots of greenery in minimalist arrangements.”
NANCY SORRELL (Mrs Vic Reeves)
“This [cactus] was a present from Lenny Henry and Dawn French to thank Vic for appearing in one of her shows about a year ago.
It’s perfect because we’re not great at remembering to water plants, and it looks after itself.”
MICA PARIS
“I buy flowers every week.”
CAROL SMILEY
"I know [my husband] probably gets them at the flower market when they are getting the flowers for the restaurants - but it's much nicer that he just turns up with them on random days. He is so good at little gestures like that. It's not the same if someone feels they have to buy you flowers because it's a particular date."
MARK HEYES - GMTV Style Guru
“My secret trick is to mix fake greenery ... with fresh flowers”
KELLY HOPPEN
“Little vases containing fresh flowers will add a delicate natural scent to the room.”
