Primula
Name - Also referred to as primrose (primula veris). Commercial primula
are bred from wild primroses and non candelabra types are also called primroses.
Description - There are four species: primula acaulis, primula malacoides,
primula obconica and primula sinensis. The primula obconica has large round heart-shaped
flowers, the primula sinensis has more compact flower heads.
Origin
- The cooler regions of the Yunnan province of China.
Care Tips
- Primulas flower in winter and spring. They should be kept cool during the flowering
season (10-15°C/50-60°F). They enjoy lots of light and sunshine in the
morning and evening. Soil should be kept moist.
Trivia - Some people
are skin-sensitive to the leaves of the primula obconica.
