Daffodil (Narcissi) potted
Name - Narcissus is named after the Greek mythological youth who was
so entranced with his own beauty that he pined to death and was turned into a
flower, the daffodil. The word may be of Iranian origin. Description
- Potted daffodils are closely planted bulbs forced to bloom early by keeping
them in dark, cool conditions followed by warmth. They have to be specially treated
so the easiest thing is to buy them already prepared by the growers. The tazetta
types (several small flowers on one stem) are frequently used as they are very
pretty and often have lovely scent, though you can also buy single yellow trumpets
like "Carlton" and cyclamen types such as "Tête a tête"
are also popular. Origin - South-west Europe. Family
- Amaryllidaceae Care Tips - Keep them in a bright but cool spot-
not above 16°C (60°F) and water with cool water. If the stems get too
"leggy" or begin to collapse, tie around them with an attractive ribbon,
string or raffia.
