Araucaria heterophylla
Name - Araucaria heterophylla takes its common name, Norfolk Island
pine, from the South Pacific island on which it was discovered in 1700s.
Description - One of the few conifer species suitable for growing indoor,
the Norfolk Island pine has distinct tiered branches of pale green needles. It
can grow to 1-1.5m/3-6ft and is sometimes used as a Christmas tree. Origin
- Norfolk Island Family - Araucariaceae, araucaria family. This
family originates in the Chilean province of Arauco where some close relatives
such as the Araucaria araucana, (commonly called Monkey Puzzle Tree) was a popular
houseplant. Care Tips - Cool and bright position with plenty of
room for growth. Water regularly from spring to autumn but less so in winter,
its resting period. It will enjoy a spell outdoors in the summer. Although a slow
grower it is an easy plant to look after and should last for many years.
