Felthorpe Floriculture
Norfolk Grown Fresh Flowers
Overview
Located just to the north west of Norwich Felthorpe Floriculture specialises in the production of locally grown seasonal cut flowers.
We provide retail bunches for sale through selected outlets including Nurseries, Garden Centres and Farmers’ Market outlets throughout Norfolk. Selected top grade flowers are also available to Florists who wish to provide their clients with the choice of locally grown produce.
About us
Grower Simon Wright established a cut flower farm in Western Australia prior to returning to United Kingdom in 2001. Then specialising in Dahlias and general cut flowers Simon developed the business to include Australia wide marketing of local ‘bush’ cut material and cultivated Australian flowers and foliages.
Here in Felthorpe we not only continue specialisation in cut flower Dahlias, backed by new quality crops and general bunched flowers, we will be introducing to the local market seasonal Australian flowers, flowering fillers and greenery, including favoured Eucalyptus varieties – all raised on site from specially imported seed.
Our growing environment
In the peaceful village of Felthorpe known for timber and tree production, arable crops and horses, the land is ideally suited for a wide range of crops. On our sheltered site are both tunnel and open field grown flowers.
First plantings were in March 2009 – Dahlias, Chrysanthemums, Old English Pinks, bunch lines of Stocks, Snapdragon, Calendulas, Asters and a range of perennial flowers. Dahlias have been star performers and good sellers with showy and colourful blooms, cut with a good stem length.
Marketing
Our distinctive signed flower stands are eye catching and display sleeved bunched flowers, complete with complimentary flower food sachet and descriptive label with care notes.
Generally we present single colour bunches and mixed flowers in colour blends. Special colours and varieties may be available to order. As the seasons change so do the flowers; during the initial low periods of production some other sourced British and imported flowers may be offered to supplement local supply. Hopefully in the future we will not have to supplement with imported flowers!
If you are a Garden Centre, Plant Nursery, Farm Shop or orther retailer of fresh local produce in Norfolk then think about the advantage of fresh cut flowers as an impulse sale – for home use, functions, public area displays or simply as a gift. Contact us as below for further information about a ‘Norfolk Grown’ stand in your store. Florists also are encouraged to apply for our distinctive ‘Norfolk Grown’ stand in addition to including our selected locally grown flowers in your arrangements. Norfolk people love to buy ‘local’
Quote – Sarah Raven ‘British Cut Flowers’
“ Did you know that the retail sales value of the cut flower industry in Britain is worth over two billion pounds? That’s the same as the Music Industry. Yet only 10% of those flowers are British grown, compared to nearly half twenty years ago”
With your help we could ‘turn the clock back’ – at least in Norfolk; and collectively challenge the big supermarkets.
