Flowers and Plants for Father's Day

The Flowers & Plants Association has lots of great ideas to show your Dad you care!

On June 15th, it's time to remember that one special man in your life – the one who always lends you his last tenner, patiently gives you lifts in the middle of the night, and happily does all the odd jobs in your home. Show your Dad you care with flowers and indoor plants - research has shown that men love receiving flowers as much as women do, perking them up and making them smile.

What about a flowering plant for his office, or a big bright bunch of flowers to make him feel extra-special? Men love bright, vibrant colours like red, and simple, bold shapes like sunflowers or chrysanthemum. If you opt for a plant, try a bromeliad. They're bright, unusual and architectural, and don't need lots of care if your Dad doesn't have green fingers.  He'll also love the scientific facts like how plants remove chemicals from the air, and can reduce colds and flu by more than 20% (and we all know how bad "man flu" is). Keep your Dad happy and healthy this Father's Day with indoor plants and flowers.

In America and Canada, people wear roses to signify gratitude for their fathers. If the wearer has a red rose, it means the person's father is alive; if it is white, it means the person's father is honouring a deceased dad.

People give their fathers gifts of flowers and plants worldwide, even in India.

Father's Day is the third Sunday of June in America and Canada as well as in the UK. But don't worry - there are still enough flowers to go round!
